The Taboada Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), located in Callao, Lima, Peru, is one of Latin America’s largest sanitation infrastructures and the largest wastewater treatment facility in South America by treatment capacity.
The plant treats an average flow of 14 m³/s, reaching peak flows of 20 m³/s, enabling it to process approximately 56% of the wastewater generated in Lima and Callao. Through this capacity, the facility provides service to more than 4.3 million people.
The project represents a key piece of infrastructure for improving environmental quality and supporting the sustainable management of the urban water cycle in the Lima metropolitan area, helping to reduce the discharge of untreated wastewater into the receiving environment.
The facility received international recognition as “Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Year” at the 2014 Global Water Awards, presented by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), for its achievements in operational efficiency, process optimisation and environmental sustainability.
