Construction procedure

The new Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge is one of the longest-span concrete cable-stayed bridges in the world, also standing out for its exceptional width (almost 60 m) and for providing one of the highest navigation clearances internationally, ensuring the safe passage of large vessels through the port channel.

The bridge deck cross-section consists of two parallel wide box girders, connected approximately every 36.09 ft by delta beams, which serve as the anchoring elements for the stay cables. The cables are arranged centrally between the box girders and in paired configurations, optimizing structural performance and load distribution.

The deck was constructed using the balanced cantilever method, with precast concrete segments, a solution that allows for high geometric precision and construction control. The pylons, with an inverted Y-shaped configuration, represent one of the bridge’s most distinctive features, combining structural efficiency with a strong visual presence.
