The project comprises the construction of a railway section consisting of a 5.66 km double-track main alignment, designed to high-speed rail standards, together with two single-track branches integrated into the Mondragón–Elorrio–Bergara rail junction.

The North and South branches, measuring 915 m and 942 m respectively, provide operational connections between the new alignment and the planned railway network, contributing to improved capacity and operational flexibility along the corridor.

The scheme forms part of a wider railway infrastructure programme aimed at increasing transport capacity, enhancing safety and reducing journey times through a route designed for high-speed operation and supported by advanced railway systems.
