The AZ-2 Quay, attached to the Ziérbena Breakwater at the Port of Bilbao, is a new port infrastructure featuring more than 650 metres of quay length and a 21-metre draft, developed to increase the port’s berthing capacity. The project consists of a gravity quay built using 13 reinforced concrete caissons.

The works included the construction of a large port platform through hydraulic reclamation using dredged material, complemented by quarry aggregates and selected fill. The caissons were founded on rockfill berms and completed with a coping beam, bollards and the necessary operational port equipment.
The project required specialised marine equipment for the manufacture, transportation and installation of the caissons. The scale of the dredging and reclamation works, together with execution entirely from the sea, made this a technically demanding maritime infrastructure project.
