The New Outer Port of Ferrol involved the development of a major maritime infrastructure designed to increase port capacity and accommodate large-scale port traffic on Spain’s Atlantic coast.

The project included the construction of a 1,105 m-long rubble mound breakwater, protected with concrete armour units weighing up to 90 tonnes and designed to operate in water depths reaching 33 m, providing safe navigation and berthing conditions.

The scheme also incorporated a perpendicular quay head and a new 858 m-long quay with a 20 m operational draft, constructed using prefabricated concrete caissons to expand the port’s cargo-handling capability.
