Located on the El-Kebir River, the project involved the construction of a straight gravity dam using roller-compacted concrete (RCC), designed for large-scale water storage and resource management.

With 1.6 million m³ of RCC and 1.9 million m³ of concrete, it was the largest RCC dam in the world at the time of construction.
