The Chironta Reservoir located in Lluta Valley, Arica y Parinacota Region project, was developed by the Hydraulic Works Directorate of the Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Chile. The reservoir is located at Site No. 4 in Chironta, Lluta Valley, approximately 70 km northeast of Arica.

The reservoir serves as a strategic water regulation infrastructure for the Lluta River, aimed at improving irrigation conditions, expanding agricultural land in the valley and mitigating flood events associated with high-altitude rainfall.

The main structure consists of a straight-axis compacted gravel dam, waterproofed by an upstream concrete face (CFGD). The dam is 90 m high and 274 m long at crest level, with slopes of 1.5H:1.0V upstream and 1.6H:1.0V downstream.

The project, developed by DRAGADOS, also includes complementary works required for operation and safety: spillway, diversion tunnel, bottom outlets, irrigation delivery works, instrumentation and control systems, access and perimeter roads —including a bridge—, as well as gauging and meteorological stations.
