The Ruskin Dam, a hydroelectric facility in operation since 1930, underwent a major rehabilitation programme aimed at improving safety, reliability and operational performance while maintaining continuous plant operation.

The project, finished in 2019, included the replacement of the existing spillway gates with larger Taintor gates, together with structural upgrades, control systems improvements and refurbishment works across both the dam and hydroelectric power station.

A key challenge of the scheme was carrying out the works without interrupting operations. To achieve this, a watertight cofferdam was designed and constructed, allowing the replacement of the gates in dry conditions while the facility remained in service.
Delivered with the participation of DRAGADOS, the rehabilitation extends the operational life of one of British Columbia’s most important hydroelectric assets.
