To protect the new East Wharf, also executed by DRAGADOS, a detached vertical breakwater with a total length of 6,627 ft was constructed. The structure consists of 43 caissons, each with a 111.55 ft height, designed to ensure the stability and operational reliability of the port infrastructure in a highly demanding maritime environment.
The breakwater alignment is located at depths of up to 147.64 ft and runs parallel to the East Wharf, at an approximate distance of 1,354.99 ft. In order to reduce wave reflection, the cells of the two outer rows of caissons were designed to remain open from elevation– 3.28 ft, both on the seaward and sheltered sides, improving the overall hydraulic performance of the structure.
