The Madrid Metro Extension Programme represents one of the largest underground transport developments undertaken in Europe, delivering more than 165 km of new lines and 168 stations between 1995 and 2011.

DRAGADOS is currently delivering the extension of Line 11 of the Madrid Metro, along the section between Plaza Elíptica and Conde de Casal. The contract includes the construction of 7 km of single-bore, double-track tunnel, with an excavation diameter of 9.38 m, executed mainly using an EPB tunnel boring machine, launched and operated from Comillas station towards Conde de Casal.

The project also comprises the construction of five new stations —Comillas, Madrid Río, Palos de la Frontera, Atocha and Conde de Casal— together with seven emergency exits, six ventilation shafts, and five pumping shafts, integrated into different structures along the alignment.

Network Expansion (1995–2011)

Between 1995 and 2011, Madrid Metro carried out the largest expansion in its history, with the construction of more than 165 km of new lines and 168 new stations, requiring the use of 31 tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

Of this total, DRAGADOS delivered 76 km, of which 61 km were excavated using TBMs, more than 8 km were executed using the Cut & Cover method, 2 km using the Belgian method, and 4 km corresponding to stations, also constructed using Cut & Cover and mechanical methods.
