The scope of the works comprised the expansion and modernisation of airport infrastructure associated with the new terminal area, including access road networks, urban development works, parking buildings, an intermodal transport zone, railway infrastructure and the CEREM (Central Eléctrica del Remolar) building.
The access road works included earthworks, preloading operations, pavement construction and surfacing for all inbound and outbound roads serving the new terminal area. These works were completed with the installation of utilities, road signage, lighting, and landscaped areas, resulting in paved surfaces and landscaped areas.
The road network required the construction of several reinforced concrete structures, including two viaducts measuring 180 m and 160 m in length, a 550 m long underpass constructed below the groundwater level at an elevation of –5.00 m, and an additional 300 m long structure located at –1.00 m elevation.
It consists of an underground infrastructure with stations built by open excavation, reinforced concrete slabs and walls, intermediate columns and an in situ cast roof slab.
The intermodal zone operates as a passenger interchange connecting the airport with different transport modes. In addition, a new parking complex was constructed, comprising six interconnected eight storey modules.
The project was completed with the construction of the CEREM building, housing the electrical installations required for airport operations.
