The Second Runway at El Dorado Airport, in Bogotá, involved the construction of a new 3,800 m long and 45 m wide runway, significantly increasing the operational capacity of Colombia’s main international airport.

The works comprised the execution of Runway 13R 31L, including 7.50 m wide paved shoulders on both sides and holding areas at each threshold, together with a parallel taxiway of the same length and 30 m in width, also provided with paved shoulders.

The project also included a rapid exit taxiway, several connecting taxiways between the runway and the parallel taxiway, and three parallel link taxiways, each 940 m long, connecting the new runway with the existing airfield infrastructure.

Complementary works covered the construction of a military apron, auxiliary and VIP buildings, as well as the installation of airfield lighting and radio navigation systems, ensuring full aeronautical operability of the new runway
