The Terminal T4 at Madrid-Barajas Airport is one of the most significant aviation infrastructure projects in Spain. Designed by architect Richard Rogers and Estudio Lamela, the project is characterized by its massive scale and technical complexity.

The terminal is engineered to serve 35 million passengers annually, with a peak-hour capacity of 10,400 passengers.

The building is organized into three main volumes aligned along a south–north axis: a 1,150 ft long, 200 ft wide arrivals and ticketing hall with 174 check-in counters; a passenger processing area with 18 security screening lanes; and a 3,750 ft long boarding pier equipped with 37 passenger boarding bridges.

The infrastructure comprises three underground levels and three above-ground levels, together with a 1,615,000 sq. ft. seagull-wing-shaped roof structure with large overhangs, common to all three volumes.

The building features a 9,480 ft length, 456,500 sq. ft. glass curtain wall extending from the first level to the roof. The three volumes are separated by 50 ft high light-filled “canyons”, which provide natural daylight to all levels of the building.
