The Winston-Salem Northern Beltway (Eastern Section) delivers 6.6 km of new controlled-access highway, improving regional connectivity between Kernersville and Walkertown in Forsyth County.

Delivered by FlatironDragados (USA) for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the route crosses creeks, waterways and wetland areas, requiring significant environmental integration measures and specialised earthworks solutions.

The project length is 4.1 miles traversing two creeks along with several streams and wetland environmental sites.

The project includes GPS and 3D guidance-controlled machines that were used extensively on the project for construction survey layout, excavation and earthwork activities and Portland cement concrete pavement activities using stringless operations.

Earthen fills at bridge approaches were constructed independently of the adjoining portions of fills in order to start settlement periods sooner. The use of settlement control sensors to determine when settlement ceased, instead of relying solely on specified time durations, allowed for the advancement of piles and subsequent bridge construction activities.

Lugo-Santiago Highway (A-54)

Galicia, Spain

The Lavacolla–Arzúa West section of the A-54 motorway comprises 18.5 km of newly constructed infrastructure, functionally replacing the corresponding stretch of the N-547 Lugo–Santiago de Compostela road. The alignment follows a sinuous layout, deliberately routed away from population centers and areas of high agricultural productivity, thereby enhancing road safety and reducing impacts on the surrounding environment, including the historic Camino de Santiago, which runs parallel to the former road. The project includes the construction of five interchanges of different typologies, incorporating solutions with single or dual roundabouts, ensuring efficient connectivity and traffic flow.

La Palma Emergency Road

Canary Islands, Spain

The volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, which lasted 85 days, caused the complete interruption of the main north–south road connections in the western part of the island due to the intense lava flows. The affected area covered more than 2,965 acres, with an estimated a verage thickness of 12 m and local maximum of up to 70 m, leaving numerous population centers and agricultural holdings in the municipalities of Los Llanos de Aridane, Tazacorte, and El Paso isolated. In March 2022, the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA) declared a state of emergency and ordered the urgent execution of the works required to restore the connection between roads LP-215 and LP-213, in the southeastern sector of the lava flow, thereby re-establishing the main affected mobility corridor.
