The new port facilities at Punta Langosteira involve the development of an outer harbor located in a highly exposed maritime environment, designed to ensure high levels of operational safety and port capacity.

The project includes the construction of a 2.11-mile-long rubble-mound breakwater, protected with an armor layer made of 150- ton blocks, reaching 195-ton high-density concrete blocks at the breakwater head. The design was developed for a significant wave height of Hs =49.21 ft, with water depths of up to 131.23 ft at the breakwater head, representing a major technical and construction challenge.

The breakwater crown wall was built at different levels, with crest elevations ranging between +62.34 ft and +82.02 ft, adapting to the functional and maritime conditions of each section.

As part of the final alignment of the main breakwater, a vertical-type hammerhead quay, 1,455 ft in length, was constructed. It is formed by 12 prefabricated caissons with a 75.46 ft draft, allowing the berthing of oil tankers.

The project also includes the construction of the main alignment of a new bulk cargo quay, with a total length of 3,000 ft, formed by 28 prefabricated caissons. As a result, a sheltered basin of 230 hectares has been created, with a minimum draft of 82.02 ft in the access channel, together with 150 hectares of port platform areas.
