The South Breakwater of the Port of Barcelona forms part of the southern port expansion and involved the construction of more than 5 km of maritime infrastructure, designed to increase port capacity and improve protection for future port facilities.

DRAGADOS works combined several structural typologies, including rubble mound breakwaters protected with concrete armour units weighing up to 60 tonnes and vertical sections constructed using large prefabricated caissons.

The development required major dredging, reclamation and marine construction activities, creating new operational port areas and supporting the long-term growth of the Port of Barcelona.
