The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway, also known as the Portsmouth Bypass, delivered 27.75 km of new highway, creating a high-capacity route for regional and long-distance traffic in southern Ohio
The Joint Venture led by FlatironDragados (USA), has carried out 17.24-mi of the Portsmouth beltway in the State of Ohio.
The 35-years concession contract includes the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance, and is the first project of this type carried out in Ohio.
One of the major milestones of the project was the movement of more than 21M yr3 earthworks in 30 months, with production peaks of nearly 1.7 million per month (double load used in most of the cuts). 90% of excavation was carried out by rock blasting (mostly sandstones with some slates) and the remaining 10% were clays.
It has to be highlighted the crossing over “Little Scioto” river, a 869 ft long viaduct, with precast concrete beams, and a maximum span length of 180 ft.
