The WestConnex New M5 forms part of the largest road infrastructure programme delivered in Australia in recent years, designed to connect western and south-western Sydney with the city centre, port and airport through a high-capacity motorway network.

The section delivered by Dragados includes the construction of two major parallel tunnels that form one of the key underground links within the wider WestConnex corridor.
The project also incorporates complex underground bifurcation caverns and future network connections, improving integration between several metropolitan transport corridors.

Excavation was carried out using a large fleet of high-powered roadheaders, specifically adapted to the geological conditions and large underground sections required beneath one of Australia’s busiest urban areas.
