The A-2 Motorway Upgrade modernised one of Spain’s main transport corridors, the N-II road constructed during the end of the 80s, between Madrid and the north-east of the country through the improvement of 53 km of alignment and the enhancement of existing road infrastructure.

The scope of work was mainly upgrading 35 miles of lanes to travelling speeds of 75 mph and improving 25 miles of road surface and road safety.

The works included geometric improvements designed to achieve a 120 km/h design speed, together with pavement rehabilitation, road safety upgrades and drainage improvements along several sections of the motorway.

As a contract requirement, DRAGADOS had to define the ordinary and extraordinary conservation measures to ensure the best possible state of the road during the operation and maintenance period.

The project further demonstrates Dragados’ expertise in the upgrading and long-term management of major motorway corridors.
